Question: Short Answer/Essay
What advice do you have for future students who take a course like this one?

  1. This is not an easy course. In my opinion I spent more time on this internet course than I would on a in-the-classroom course.
  2. Get a geologic dictionary and borrow other earth/geology books from friends. Use spellcheck.
  3. be prapared to give it more time then your classes because you have to learn everything basically on your own.
  4. Study and read the book carefully. You need self discipline to do well in this type of course.
  5. Do the keywords and study questions at the end of the chapters, and read the material.
  6. Read, Read, Read, take your time and print out all the acitivies before you make a final answer.
  7. Read the book, it helps out a lot
  8. Be prepared to spend between 10 - 15 hrs a week on it. I did. (I think it will pay off with an A) Take over summer, that way you only have one class to worry about.(Especially if you work full time and have a family that depends on you.)
  9. Be prepaired to WORK. Most people will under stand that you can't point n click to a good grade. But it was very chalanging and time comsuming.
  10. Don't think that it's necessary to do all of the textbook reading and web reading before engaging in some of the activities. They actually help you to understand at another level the environmental and technical processes discussed refered to in the readings. Also, approach the discussion boards and helping conferences like you are walking into the classroom. Don't be intimidated to see your comments in print.
  11. 1.Make sure they have fairly good computer skills before starting the course. 2.The course work isn't that hard; just work on getting the basics and the assignments will flow out of that.
  12. Don't put anything off until the last moment, quizzes especially.
  13. Actually i think the only way to do well in this course is to understand each theory and think practically. You will do well!
  14. Take time each night to read or write, or anything to make it easier. Keep up with the assignments and if possible GET AHEAD!!
  15. Make sure you have a comfortable chair and maybe a rollerball mouse (that you can operate in your lap rather than reaching for it on the desk) as you spend hours reading from your monitor.
  16. Discipline and get yourself on a routine for completing the work in each chapter. This makes it a lot easier to juggle when you have set goals for completing the work.
  17. Be prepared to spend many, many hours,(probably more than a traditional class)completing the tasks and studying the content. The convenience cant be compared, but it would seem that you must be very self-disciplined and motivated to "teach yourself" the material that is expected to be learned.
  18. Have the work done a few days before it's due.
  19. Don't wait until the last day or minute. The activities are not easy, so you will need a lot of time to think or ask for help. I also would strongly urge them to get involved with the discussion borad because it helped me out a lot.
  20. Don't wait until the last minute, and read the helping each other page before you start an assignment because the students there will probably have allready run into the same problems that you will run into.
  21. My only advice to them would simply be to take the class and not be overwhelmed by the internet.
  22. Don't think it is going to be easy.
  23. Be self motivated because it is easy to fall behind in the readings and the agenda as one is not in a classroom setting that may enable one to be more motivated by class discussians.
  24. Don't be a fool, read and contribute to the study conferences. Make sure you have enough time.
  25. Always stay on top of your work. And don't take on more work than you can handle.
  26. Read about you activites well before you do them, because some of them could take alot more time than you might think!
  27. Just to make sure that you spent plenty of time on the activities!
  28. GOOD LUCK ON THE FILL IN THE BLANK QUESTIONS, IT'S A GAMBLE.
  29. Just read what you need to read and do assignments in orderly manner, don't wait till the deadline to figure it outl. Also have fun with what you learn.
  30. It was convenient.
  31. Take your time on activities. Look at the information given and figure out what information is relevant and what information is just fill.
  32. Follow dates and study hard for the quizes.
  33. Keep up with the work. That's it.
  34. Keep going, after you get through the first week (Figuring out how to do the computer stuff), it gets easier!
  35. keep up with the work prior to the due date
  36. make sure you do all of the reading, purchase the study guide that goes with the text
  37. READ THE BOOK. It is the only way to learn the material.
  38. Be prepared to work.....HARD!!!!
  39. Make sure you have enough time in the summer for this course, its time consuming.
  40. Print each activity first, then read the chapter, do the activities, then do the study questions for the chapter and see how your answers relate to the answers of your peers.
  41. Do the work in advance.
  42. be prepared to put in the time
